This is the PCpost package from Lund University Computing Center in Sweden.
It is a simple to use mailing system for MS-DOS computers, using an almost
selfexplaining menu system. Reading and writing letters are always done
using an editor, and the user can configure the one he wants to use (TED,
a simple full screen editor is included).

It uses a dedicated PC as a mail gateway between users on one (or up to 8)
Novell Netware servers and the big world. This PC must have SMTP over TCP/IP
connection to a well configured mail router.

The dedicated PC runs a modified version of Phil Karns (KA9Q) NET. This
is not free software, it is copyright Phil Karn. Non comersial and
educational organizations may use it freely, others must ask Phil for
permisson (send mail to karn@ka9q.bellcore.com).

This release contains PCpost ver 1.1, the second general release.
Besides a few bug fixes we also changed as follows:

- The default directory is not changed during the call of the editor,
instead the editor call has the appropiate path. Less confusing for
the user when including files or escaping to DOS.

- Mapping of characters to/from 7 bit SMTP and 8 bit IBM PC ASCII uses
tables in a way easily extendable to several languages.

- We use call parameters instead of environment variables. It is now no
longer necessary to increase the environment space.

- A new menu choise: Include text file.

- Mail bigger than x kBytes (default 100 kBytes) is not sent, and the user
  is informed of the fact.

- Bigger window showing more of the unread mail info.

- Some additions and changes to the installation documentation.

This version of PCpost supports anonymous FTP of files on a local disk
of the PCpost gateway. Next version will allow these files to be on
a Novell file server.

The PCpost package is available for anonymous ftp from Pollux.lu.se
(130.235.132.89) in directory /pub/network/pcpost as file pcpost11.zip .
Get the file in binary mode and use "pkunzip -d pcpost11" for unpacking
(/pub/pkz110eu.exe is a self unpacking program that contains pkunzip).
There is one subdirectory, called SERVER, that contains files for the PCpost
gateway and the document INSTALL.DOC which discribes how to install PCpost.
Another subdirectory called PCPOST contains the PCpost client programs,
user documentation, and a simple public domain text editor.

The client program is currently available in both swedish and english
versions. The server program is language independent (as far as concerns
the user, on the console it is all english).

There is a mailing list for pcpost managers, send mail to
pcpost-request@ldc.lu.se to join the list and you can send your
postings to pcpost@ldc.lu.se .

Look in the /pub/mac/comm/macpost directory for a similar package,
named MacPost, for Macintosh users.
