ile is a program that allows users to use emacs-style editing commands
on all input they type into UNIX. It is smart enough to get out of
the way when programs like emacs start up. It is very stable at this
point, but could be improved in several ways. See the file ile.c for
suggestions for improvements.

To make ile, first edit ile.h and set the BINDING_DESCRIPTION constant
to be the absolute pathname of the ile.key_map file.

Then simply type make.

The files profile and login contain example .profile and .login files
which will automagically run ile. The instructions file contains more
information on these files. Modify the exec line to point to the
location of the ile binary on your system.

Ile has been tested on Sun 3s, Sun 4s, Apollos, and Vaxen, and works
well with just about any terminal that supports backspacing.
