John Flanagan wrote me a letter describing how he had adapted
the LUCAS/FRANCES design for the 500 by putting the guts into a used
XT case, and using an XT power supply to make up for the lack of power
in the 500 supply. I asked him if he would write up a description of this
and send it to me. As luck would have it the AmigoTimes magazine called
the same day and asked for an article for their December issue which will
be dedicated to hardware. Well, I ain't stupid, I'm combining the two
and will co-author with John an article on hacking LUCAS/FRANCES into
the 500, which will appear in that issue. I will then put the article on
the docs disk for LUCAS and FRANCES. Write me if you want a draft copy
of this article which should be done by Nov. 1st or buy an AmigoTimes
Remember I'm the guy who said LUCAS/FRANCES would not fit into
a 500, ingenuity wins again.

The article is now finished, you can see it here in the
'LUCAS_&_A500' file

August 11th, 1989

This is now the seventh release of LUCAS boards (100 per release)
and I'm updating the disk again.
The "Latest_Update" file is added with each new release of
boards and contain information which has been fed back to me from
those people who have built LUCAS.
All the text files are straight ASCII files and should be
printed out. When you double click on the files they are displayed using
the more utility, but some of the line lengths make them a little
difficult to read.

	**** IMPORTANT ****

I perceive a danger with all the extra information I'm
presenting here. I've decided to give you some of the fixes that people
have used to get there system up and running. My concern is that if
your board doesn't come up first time that you will go through all the
fixes without properly checking out your board for the more obvious
faults. Keep this is mind when your debugging your board.

Alot of you now have purchased the LUCAS and FRANCES board
at the same time. If you are doing both at the same time, don't
go for the 'whole enchalata' first time. Concentrate on the LUCAS
board first and get it working and stable in your system, then go on
to the FRANCES board. If you have problems, its alot better to keep
the possibilites as small as possible.

Do yourself a favour and read all the documentation before
starting the project. With a hardware project the "UNDO command"
can get pretty messy, not to mention expensive.

For those of you who are going to program your own pals I've
now included the JEDEC files in the PAL directory.

				Enjoy!
